None other than our "Caffey"! We have been waiting patiently since last week for her to have this calf and today we got a surprise! After kindergarten registration was over we rushed home to see the new "addition". Now, each of the boys have a heifer calf of their own. Last year's calf "George" and this year's calf that Duncan named "Dolly"- thankfully for Grandpa, George is not the name of choice this year, or at least right now, for any new animals:) Apparently, that was last year's name- We now have two Dolly's though-(a dog and a calf) Duncan was very quick to point this out when he told us what he was naming her and ran off for the corral to see them.
It has amazed me that as Caffey has aged she still is so friendly and trusting of us. I think that my Dad has helped that cause quite a bit spoiling her and giving her attention when he feeds them, but she is still just a funny little cow and is special for sure. Considering that we saved her from freezing to death when her mother abandoned her, and that she spent the first two weeks of her life in our basement, because it was soooo cold in the middle of January, she will always be our special little cow and Duncan's first real "big" pet. Is it normal to have a pet cow, probably not, but who says we are normal:)
She loves attention and will lick you to death if you let her so it was kind of fun watching Clayton with her and the calf, this being his first "real" encounter with a cow. He warmed right up though and was making noises and patting her on the back before we were through. The joys of farm life... Did I mention we have baby chicks? ha ha ha

How fun! Shawn's comment was "wow, a mamma cow that won't try and run you over...that's wierd." I told him it was a special cow that knows better. It looks like fun times at your place. We are finally enjoying spring up north!
There is nothing cuter than new babya calves running around trying to find their legs -- but how nice to have a cow that will stand and be friends. What a great experience for those two boys!
Wow how fun! I wish that we had nice cows that would let you pet them, wait I wish that I had cows. Bam went to the dairy for school and was all freaked out that his milk came from cows so we had to tell him it didn't that it came from the store so he would drink it again. oh the sheltered life! That looks so fun we should get the boys together sometime.
